Nearly 16,000 Greene County Residents Celebrate Quality Living!

Newcomers to Greene County are finding out what we have known all along… we have a small piece of heaven right here centrally located in Georgia! The heralded Oconee Performing Arts Society (OPAS) is a nonprofit cultural arts organization which brings top quality live performing arts to the Lake Oconee region. Performances take place on the waterfront at Lake Oconee, in Greensboro’s Festival Hall, in Eatonton’s Plaza Arts Center, at The Ritz-Carlton Lodge and Harbor Club’s Polo Arena. From under the stage lights to under the stars, OPAS’s performances embrace both the traditions of the past and the vibrant artistry of the future.

Greene County’s livelihood has been historically driven by first an agrarian economy rich with cotton plantations, then following the Civil War, a predominantly textile economy. But the turn of the 21st century has brought an evolution in the area’s economic base. Greene County is actively diversifying its industrial base and is currently home to over 20 vibrant industries employing over 750 skilled workers. The area location, labor and lifestyle, along with its proactive leadership, has been the recipe for attracting national and global industrial leaders such as NIBCO, Inc., a maker of plastic pipe fittings, Novelis, an aluminum recycling firm, and Quail International, a quail hatchery and processing company. The local development leadership continues to actively recruit industries that desire the convenience of Interstate access combined with affordable, quality living.
